The Azores - Pico Island
The mountain rises out of the sea and up above the clouds. All around
is the blue of the sky and the water and the green forms of islands
that are dominated by its height. This is Pico, a volcanic cone that
has been transformed by mans hand into vineyards and orchards that
erupt among the black lava.

Evolving around the
volcano from which it took its name, with a height of 2,351 meters and
the highest point in Portugal, the island of Pico is rectangular in
form - 42 km long and 15.2 km wide - covering an overall area of 447
km². It is a plateau with secondary volcanic cones, ending with high
cliffs and the sea, while the lower part to the west is gently sloping.
It is situated at a point 28º 20' west and 38º 30' north
What to visit
Mountain of Pico
Majestically volcano that the island with its dominates 2.351m
high, crowned for Pico Grande, crater rounded off with about 700m of
perimeter and depth that reaches 30m. In the extremity of the crater
the volcanic cone of the Piquinho, or Pico Pequeno with about 70m
height, whose base emanates small portions of smoke, constitutes the
top of the crater. The ascent to Pico possible that is always followed
by local guide.
Village of Lages
Center of tradition whaleboat, the village of the Lajes has a set

Museum of the Whaler, ex-libris of the Village and that it portraits
